In case one wishes to meet his or her relatives or simply visit Canada, one must apply for a TRV or a Temporary Resident Visa. However, holding a TRV is not equivalent to a right to enter Canada but only a privilege. Under this program, those who belong to visa exempted countries (such as the US), can gain the status without the visa while others would require a valid TRV to get in.
To get in as a temporary resident, you must be able to convince an officer that you will leave Canada at the end of the period on your TRV authorized for your stay regardless of whether in the future you are planning to apply for permanent status. This is so because the government wouldn’t want to entertain people who try to settle in or hide in their territory after getting in. If they apprehend of any intention otherwise, chances are you won’t qualify for your TRV. Additionally, must not have a history of having non-compliance with the conditions of admissibility during any of your previous stays in Canada. You must have sufficient funds to support yourself and must be medically admissible.
Applicants may eventually apply for a permanent status as however, but this won’t have any effect on your period of stay under the TRV unless you become eligible for permanent status before the expiry of your TRV.
